ZOA-UK has been selected as a charity partner for The Big Give’s Christmas Challenge 2022. The Big Give is an online fundraising campaign running from midday on 29 November to midday on 6 December 2022. This is the UK’s biggest match funding campaign and has raised millions of pounds for thousands of charities since it launched in 2008.
How does the Christmas Challenge work?
The Christmas Challenge is a match funding campaign where donations made to ZOA via The Big Give are doubled. Donations are only matched during the Christmas Challenge week – 29 November to lunchtime on 6 December, so we need you to give via The Big Give website during this exact time period.

How will ZOA-UK benefit?
This year our Big Give appeal will be focusing on one of the most important areas of our work, empowering girls through access to education. As our supporters will be aware, girls are often the first to be excluded from education in Zambia. That’s why we will remove financial, psychological and menstruation-related barriers so that 600 deprived girls in Zambia can participate in primary, secondary or tertiary education, leading to improved prospects. Completing formal education is a proven route out of poverty, improving access to reliable employment and financial security.
For every pound you donate to ZOA during The Big Give’s Christmas Challenge, your donation will be doubled, up to a total of £20,000.
Sounds good. How can I get involved?
Very simply, we need as many donations as possible to be received via the special ZOA page on The Big Give website during the Christmas Challenge period (midday 29 November to midday 6 December). Only donations received this way and within the valid dates and times will benefit from the match funding.
We know life is very difficult for all of us in these unprecedented times, but every pound really does count and makes an enormous difference to the lives of some of Zambia’s most vulnerable girls and young women.
