Enforce The Laws To Stop Child Marriage

Despite New Laws Prohibiting Child Marriage Girls In Zambia
Continue To Be At-Risk

In Zambia, 29% of girls are married by the age of 18 – often to older men – at a time when they should be in school learning and making friends. There are laws against these practices – but they’re rarely enforced.

Tell the Zambian President, Hakainde Hichilema, to put his money where his mouth is – and enforce the laws against child marriage.

Tell the Zambian Government

Every Year, Girls Drop Out of school to get married - and never come back.

In Zambia, too many girls face pressure to marry young.  Legislation to restrict early marriage is not enforced, so girls remain at-risk. Zambia Orphans Aid UK is a small UK-registered charity working with Zambian schools to support vulnerable children through education – as education gives them the best chance of a life free from poverty.

We train teachers and community volunteers as counsellors who can identify and support girls at risk of early marriage. This approach helps children at risk of child marriage to access the education they need to thrive.

Every year, girls disappear from our classrooms. Their friends wonder where they’ve gone – and whether they’ll be back. Chances are, they won’t. Most girls who leave school to get married never complete their education. They face isolation, disempowerment and – at times – abuse. For their sake – and the sake of future generations – this must stop.

For their sake and the sake of future
generations, this must stop.
