Venansio Kabwe tells ZOA why he’s decided to organise a sponsored walk to raise money for ZOA

“We’ve all been locked up for too long because of coronavirus so this is an opportunity for like-minded people to get together, have good conversations in a beautiful location and at the same time raise money for those less fortunate.

The walk starts and ends at The Lord Darcy, 618 Harrogate Road at 9.30am on Sunday 29th August 2021 and is a 10km route taking in Eccup Reservoir – the largest aread of water in West Yorkshire. The reservoir and surrounding woodlands are both Sites of Special Scientific Interest and is home to a growing population of red kites – you never know we may see one on the walk!

I’ve always been driven to help those less fortunate than myself and as chair of Zambia Leeds Community Association and newly appointed to the board of trustees at ZOA I thought it was a great opportunity to work with the amazing network of Zambian diaspora in Leeds to raise money for a charity doing such great work with orphans and vulnerable children in Zambia.

So far, we have Zambians, Zimbabweans and British who have signed up so you can be sure of interesting conversation throughout the walk and in the pub afterwards. The walk is open to anyone who’s interested in walking and good conversation and will be family friendly. It’ll be sure to be a fun day out!

I’ve set the challenge of raising £2000 for ZOA so do come along and walk with us, raise some sponsorship or simply donate to a very good cause”.
